The age of EMO-cracy

Posted: August 25, 2010 in Politics & News

I have been saying for some time now, that we are living in an age driven more by emotion than ever before. We have become so touchy-feely that it’s suffocating us. This goes above and beyond the term “PC” (Political Correctness) from the nineties. To the point that we appointed a man with no real experience, and no record to speak of, to the highest elected position in the country. It was his story and dare I say his ethnicity that took the forefront, followed by emotionally charged platitudes and slogans. Let’s be honest what does anyone remember about his platform, other than “hope and change” & “yes we can”! There was no real substance. Now let’s look at most of the issues since 2008, “healthcare” all we heard were sob stories and tales of horror about tragic cases of no insurance all to grant more power to the federal government! Both sides do try this EMO-cratic approach. For example, Sarah Palin announced the existence of Death Panels in the bill. Even though it was backed up with facts, it was still shot down by the left. Because (and remember this!) when we use their tactics we are not (in their minds) bringing out an emotional point, but simply fear & hate mongering. It makes me laugh when I think how schoolyard they can be in their arguments. I say that there are no constitutional grounds, nor good financial plan for universal healthcare. Then I’m accused wanting people without health insurance to die. I say that government is too big, and we are overtaxed. Then I am called a racist! I wonder when the DNC talking points will finally be “your mama!” and “I know you are but what am I?”  We must be diligent in using logic and the Constitution as our guide, & not fall into the EMO-cratic trap.

My friend in this piece you were spot on!! We react with our emotions and not think with logic. It is in this, among other reasons that we as a nation on a slippery slope to fiscal, social, and spiritual bondage. It seems that you and I think alike!
